The Boosters: Who are we? What do we do? How can you help, too?

Toni Jensen, the 2007 President of the Acton-Boxborough Soccer Boosters, ably addresses these questions in her year-end letter to the boosters: |

Hello Parents and Coaches, My name is Toni Jensen and for the past year it has been my honor to be President of the dedicated group of parent volunteers known as the AB Soccer Boosters. I have been active with the group and held various positions since my oldest daughter began with the program at RJ Grey Junior High School. She is a senior this year and I would like to tell you it has been fun, rewarding and positive. I am proud to be part of an organization that strives hard to support 10 AB Soccer teams. As a Boosters group, we raise funds through the Gold Card sale, our annual car wash and our Food Booth sales at Leary Field for night games. The money raised goes right back into the program and we try to work in conjunction with the ABYS soccer program that provides tremendous value to the community in so many ways. Last year, we purchased goals that are down on the lower fields and believe it or not they cost several thousand dollars (I was shocked that they were so expensive!). The previous year, the Boosters provided a substantial donation to Friends of Leary Field for the turf field at Leary Field and for the terrace improvements. We also funded the assistant coaches' positions, goalkeeper training, scholarships, and we create memories for our players by producing a soccer yearbook. This yearbook is distributed at the HS banquet. The Junior High Teams also receive yearbooks and are treated to end of season pizza parties by the Boosters We exist to "boost” you, your soccer players and coaches, and we could not do it without your support or without the dedication of every single parent who donates their time, energy and talents to the many Boosters sponsored events. So thank you all!!! Each year, all of the teams are encouraged to do Community Service. This year, the Varsity boys spent a rainy, cold Saturday cleaning a section of the Assabet River. The Seniors have also taken part in the Buddy System program with ABYS teams. The Freshman teams helped to clean Leary Field this Fall and the JV teams and Varsity Teams are scheduled to clean Leary Field again in the Spring. You may be asking…Why am I writing a monologue? Because I wanted to share with you the great things that the AB Boosters brings to the program and I want to encourage you to get involved! We cannot accomplish these goals without the help of all parents. We want your input (good and bad), energy and ideas! So, please get involved. Come to a Boosters meeting and have fun with us. Please join us at the AB Soccer Banquet with all of the Coaches as they look forward to recognizing your sons and daughters and the Teams’ great successes. There is no cost to the players when accompanied by at least one parent. Please contact Maureen Hart. There is a banquet link on www.absoccer.org Sincerely, Toni Toni Jensen |
